ABOUT HONEY
1. What is raw honey?
Raw honey is honey kept as close as possible to the way it comes from the hive.
Our honey is extracted without a heating process and minimally handled, so its natural flavour, aroma and character are preserved.
We've spent years working with bees and harvesting honey ourselves, and this is how we believe good honey should be enjoyed — as close to the hive as possible.
2. Why do you keep your honey raw?
Because we don't think honey needs much help.
The bees have already done the hard work.
We extract our honey without heating it, keeping as much of its natural character as possible: from its flavour and aroma to the qualities naturally present in the honey.
For us, it's simple: don't overwork something that's already good
3. How is raw honey different from regular honey?
The difference is mainly in what happens after the honey is harvested.
Some honey is heated and processed more extensively. Our raw honey is extracted without a heating process and handled as little as possible.
That means the honey stays closer to the way it came from the hive; and you get to taste more of where it came from.
4. What's in your infused honey?
Our infused honey is made with honey and just one additional ingredient, such as chilli, ginger, yuzu or rose petals.
For our Teh Tarik Infused Raw Honey and HK Milk Tea Infused Raw Honey, we use raw honey, tea leaves and milk powder.
No MSG. No artificial flavourings. No unnecessary additives.
Just honey and real ingredients chosen to create each flavour.
You'll always find the full ingredients clearly listed on the product label.
5. Are your infused honeys still raw?
Yes. Our flavoured honeys start with our raw honey.
We combine it with natural ingredients to create each flavour, while keeping the honey itself as close as possible to the way it comes from the hive.
Raw honey is where every Hives Keeper flavour begins..
6. Why do you infuse honey with natural ingredients?
Because we wondered what else honey could become.
We've known honey from the hive for years. At some point, we started experimenting with bringing raw honey together with natural ingredients and superfoods we loved.
The result is a different way to enjoy honey — still raw honey at heart, just with a little more imagination.
7. Is your infused honey lab tested?
Yes. Our infused honey undergoes independent testing by third-party laboratories recognised by the relevant authorities before it reaches Singapore.
Every honey is assessed against international quality and safety standards.
We want you to feel confident about what's in every jar.
8. How do you choose the honey you sell?
We've been around bees and honey for a long time, so we know that not all honey is the same.
Both of our founders studied apiary in the US and used to run bee farms of our own. We spent many seasons harvesting honey ourselves, working alongside our team and getting to know the bees, the seasons and the people behind each harvest.
Today, we've sold our farms. But we still know our beekeepers personally, and we trust them to do what we once did ourselves.
We look at where the honey comes from, how it is harvested and, most importantly, how it tastes. It's the starting point for everything we make - whether we're enjoying it on its own or pairing it with natural ingredients to create something new.
FROM FLOWER TO HIVE
9. Where does your honey come from?
Honey doesn't begin in a jar.
It begins with a flower. A landscape. Thousands of bees. And the people who care for them.
We've worked with honey from places including Western Australia and Northern Thailand, where different flowers, seasons and landscapes give each honey its own character.
We know the people behind our honey and where it comes from. That's important to us.
10. Why does honey taste different from one place to another?
Because honey carries a little bit of where it comes from.
The flowers the bees visit, the season, the weather and the landscape all influence its colour, aroma and flavour.
That's why a honey from Western Australia can taste so different from one from Northern Thailand.
Different place. Different flowers. Different honey.
11. Where does your Jarrah honey come from?
Our Jarrah honey comes from the nectar of Jarrah trees in Western Australia.
The Jarrah tree is part of the landscape there, and when it flowers, the bees get to work.
What ends up in the jar is a taste of that place.
That's one of the things we love about single-origin honey: you can taste where it comes from.
12. Do you still keep bees?
We used to.
Our founders started out as beekeepers and ran bee farms of our own. We spent many seasons harvesting honey ourselves, working alongside our team and learning the craft from the hive up.
We've since sold our farms, but we've stayed close to the people and places that first taught us about honey.
Today, we work with beekeepers we know and trust.
13. How do you work with your beekeepers?
We know our beekeepers personally.
That's important because we don't just want to know what's in the jar. We want to know where it came from and who was behind it.
Having kept bees ourselves, we understand the work that goes into every harvest, and the importance of looking after the bees, the colonies and the landscapes around them.
ENJOYING YOUR HONEY
14. How should I store my honey?
Keep your honey somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
There's no need to refrigerate it.
And don't worry if it changes over time.
Honey is a natural product, and natural products have a way of changing.
15. Why has my honey crystallised?
Because it's honey.
Crystallisation is completely natural. It doesn't mean your honey has gone bad.
Some honeys crystallise quickly. Others stay liquid for much longer. It depends on the flowers the bees have been visiting and the natural composition of the honey.
So if your honey crystallises, don't throw it away.
It's still good honey. Just a little different.
16. Can I turn crystallised honey back into liquid?
Yes.
Place the closed jar in warm water and let it gently warm until the crystals soften.
There's no need to boil it or use high heat.
A little patience works just fine.
And if you like your honey crystallised, you can simply enjoy it that way.
17. How can I enjoy Hives Keeper honey?
However you like honey.
Drizzle it over toast, yoghurt or fruit. Pair it with cheese. Stir it into a drink. Use it in a dressing or marinade. Bake with it.
Or just take a spoonful.
And because different honeys have different personalities, we encourage you to try them in different ways.
You might be surprised by what works.
GOOD TO KNOW
18. Is honey safe for babies?
Honey shouldn't be given to babies under 12 months old.
This is because honey can cause infant botulism, a rare but serious illness.
19. Is honey suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
Honey is generally considered vegetarian, but it isn't vegan because it is produced by bees.
Whether you choose to enjoy honey is a personal choice; and we're here to tell you where ours comes from and how it's made.
20. Is your honey tested or certified?
Yes. Every honey is independently tested before it reaches Singapore.
All our honeys are assessed against international quality and safety standards. In addition, our Australian honeys are also tested for Total Activity (TA), a measure of the honey's natural antimicrobial activity.
We want you to feel confident about what's in every jar.
