At Hives Keeper, our honey is harvested in this way and our family and friends place huge importance on the safety and well-being of our bees and their surroundings so we always ensure they have enough honey in the hive to thrive.
3. USAGE AND RECIPES
Raw honey is delicious and can be seamlessly incorporated into many recipes, it’s also an easily accessible ingredient with no expiry when stored properly! For example, you could consume a spoonful of raw honey daily in the morning, use honey instead of sugar to take benefits from its antioxidants and low GI property, drizzle it on your breakfast bowl, salad or toast, make honey granola cookies, honey lemon water, or enjoy it with cheese ….

Raw honey does not expire. Due to its low moisture content and acidic nature, raw honey has natural preservative properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms. When it is stored properly in a sealed container at room temperature or below, raw honey can remain stable indefinitely.
4. STORAGE AND PRESERVATION
Store raw honey in a tight sealed container (the one that we provide) at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
A big conception is that when honey crystallizes, it has gone bad. Not true. Raw honey does not spoil. In fact, crystallization is a sign of real, quality honey. Honey granulation is a natural characteristic of pure, raw honey. It tastes just as good.
Absolutely! To return crystallized honey to a liquid state, you simply need to put your honey container in a pot of warm water (about 43°C max). This gentle transfer of heat to the honey helps bring it back to liquid form.

6. SAFETY CONCERNS
Raw honey is safe for all to enjoy, unless a person is allergic to bee pollen. It is recommended that infants less than 12 months old should avoid consuming raw honey due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious condition.
Testing for purity at home is challenging. However, signs such as natural crystallization and its reluctance to dissolve easily in water can indicate raw honey’s authenticity.
They do not mean the same thing. Pure honey means that there are no natural or artificial additives in the honey, such as colourants or flavourings. It does not mean that the honey is raw or pasteurised. So pure honey could mean raw honey or regular honey.
While rare, consuming raw honey in excessive amounts can lead to constipation, bloating or diarrhoea.
Yes! In fact, taking one spoonful of raw honey every day can have numerous benefits to your health.
Yes, you can use a metal spoon to eat honey. Metal spoons, especially those made of stainless steel, don’t react with raw honey, so they are safe to use and won’t change the honey’s taste or quality. For storing raw honey, however, it is better to use glass bottles (like the one we provide).

From rotating our apiary sites to prevent overexploitation to only harvest honey when there is a surplus; and from avoid using harmful chemicals and pesticides to only use high quality recyclable glass jars, we take sustainable practices seriously.

Raw honey means honey is not pasteurized or filtered. Organic honey means certified free of chemicals. So honey can be raw and organic, raw but not organic, and organic but not raw. At Hives Keepers, we produce raw and organic honey, and raw honey.
